ˈadəˌt(y)o͞od/
noun
1. a settled way of thinking or feeling about someone or something, typically one that is reflected in a person’s behavior.
We’ve all heard it from a parent, a teacher, a coach, or boss, “your attitude is contagious, is yours worth catching?” The funny thing is that an attitude is not necessarily something tangible that you can touch, smell, or taste. However, there is no doubt we can feel someone’s attitude. The reason you can feel it is because words and behaviors reflect it.
If someone is having a bad day it can be seen on their face, in their mannerisms, and in their behavior. Attitudes certainly are contagious. Everyone has that one friend that is always enthusiastic, happy, and excited about life, no matter their circumstance. How does that person make you feel? Well, it makes me feel excited and happy too! I want to be around these people. On the other side of that coin, we all know someone who is constantly a Debbie Downer. It drags you down too, doesn’t’ it? Don’t be that person!
I’m not saying that we don’t honestly reflect on difficult situations. It, of course, is fine to mourn, weep, and have sorrow in trying times. However, even on our worst day, we can choose to be thankful and grateful. We choose our attitude in every situation.
Check your attitude today. It is a choice. If you find yourself thinking and feeling negative about a certain situation in your life, take a minute and choose a better way of thinking. Find the good even in the struggle. Today be determined to choose your attitude wisely and ask yourself, “if my attitude is contagious, is it worth catching?”
“Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference”. – Winston Churchill
